Staring Out Windows
The act of staring out a window is often associated with the idea of doing nothing, yet this nothing can bring on a state of reverie, daydream, encourage imagination, and return a sense of scale to a world that can sometimes seem incredibly loud, busy and far too close. The point of staring out a window is not really to see what is going on outside, it is rather an exercise in turning inwards. The external view serves as a distraction that allows the internal landscape to shift, settle and remake itself. The exercise is a way of creating a small space of silence in the everyday.
You are invited to spend some time staring out a window, leave your phone, book, cup of tea and everything else behind, decide on a period of time and just stare out a window for a little (or a long) while.
To participate please go to www.staringoutwindows.tumblr.com to submit a photo with name, location, date and any other information you wish to share.
